The student protest at Jantar Mantar has escalated into a full-blown political storm. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was detained by police during the demonstration on Wednesday and released shortly after, instantly turning the CJP-led movement into national headline news.
What Happened on the Ground
More than 1,000 people remained camped at the Jantar Mantar protest site, shouting slogans and waving the national flag. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined the demonstrators, with Rahul demanding an apology from the Prime Minister over the handling of the exam crisis.
Police moved in with a fresh crackdown, using tear gas, and internet services around the site were reportedly cut off.
The City Feels It Too
Delhi Metro shut at least 16 stations leading to the protest site from different parts of the capital region, as crowds kept growing through the day.
