India finally has a dengue vaccine. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation has granted market authorisation to Takeda's Qdenga (TAK-003), making it the first dengue vaccine ever approved in the country.

Qdenga is approved for people aged 4 to 60. It is given as two 0.5 ml injections, three months apart, and protects against all four dengue virus serotypes.
Why This One Is Different
Unlike some earlier dengue vaccines, Qdenga does not require testing for prior dengue infection before administration. That single fact makes it far easier to roll out at scale.
Does It Work?
In a late-stage trial, the vaccine showed 80.2% efficacy against confirmed dengue cases one year after the second dose. It has already been approved in 43 countries, with more than 32 million doses distributed globally.
