As far as horror comics go, it's hard to find a cooler elevator pitch than the one for Operation: Iron Coffin. This series reimagines Dracula as a John Wick-esque anti-hero, cutting a bloody swath through waves of Nazi enemies aboard a train.
If that sounds appealing, then you'll want to check out our preview of the new series. See ten pages from the first issue in the slideshow gallery below, along with the exclusive debut of cover art for Operation: Iron Coffin #2 and #3:
Operation: Iron Coffin is written by Kenny Porter (Superboy) and drawn by Tyrell Cannon (Beef Bros). The series is published by IDW Publishing as part of their IDW Dark imprint. Here's the official summary for the series:
The recently resurrected Dracula, one of the worldโs greatest monsters and most infamous vampires, is hell-bent on redemption. The mission he takes to make that redemption possible? Teaming up with British Allied forces during World War II. Theyโll air-drop him onto a Nazi train containing a horde of soldiers, augmented villains, and a vampire plague that, if released, will create a new generation of vampire terrors. Dracula will have to battle his way through the train, confronting his past sins and facing off against the wicked Hazel and Ivy, who are calling the shots for the Nazisโฆand who have a vested interest in Draculaโs failures. The action horror book of the year is here, from critically acclaimed writer Kenny Porter (Superboy: Man of Tomorrow, DC Mech, TMNT 2025 Annual) and rising star artist Tyrell Cannon (Fantastic Four Fanfare).
"This book is our love-letter to Dracula and the action/horror genre," Porter tells IGN. "If youโre a fan of the horror elements of Spawn or Castlevania and the pulp adventure of Indiana Jones, this is the series for you!"
Cannon adds, "Kenny and I have packed this series with action, emotion, scares and gore. Join us and Dracula for this thrilling ride!"
Operation: Iron Coffin #1 will be released on July 8, with a final order cutoff of June 1. You can preorder a copy at your local comic shop.
