30,000 Jobs at Risk? Union vs TCS Clash Raises Alarm in IT Sector

30,000 Jobs at Risk?

The IT sector is facing fresh unrest as the employees’ union UNITE, supported by the CITU, has launched protests against alleged large-scale layoffs at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The union has claimed that nearly 30,000 jobs are at risk, warning that if the company does not respond to their concerns, they may even take their protest to the international level.

TCS, however, has strongly denied the figures put forward by the union. The company clarified that the actual number of job cuts is around 12,000 worldwide, not 30,000 as alleged.

This clash has drawn attention to the growing anxiety over job security in India’s IT industry, which is one of the country’s biggest sources of employment and global reputation. With layoffs becoming a recurring concern, unions are now stepping up to represent employees in the tech sector — a trend that was previously less common.

The Indian government is said to be keeping a close watch on the issue, as the outcome could have wider implications for the industry and its workers.
