Bill Passed On Ban of Real-Money Online Games in India by Lok Sabha

Lok Sabha Passes Bill Banning Real-Money Online Games in India

In a landmark move, the Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Promotion & Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, giving India a clear legal framework for the online gaming industry.

The Bill, strongly backed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, brings a complete ban on real-money online games. Popular apps like Dream11, WinZO, MPL, and other betting-based platforms will no longer be allowed to operate in the country.

The decision comes amid rising concerns about gambling addiction, financial losses, and fraud cases linked to these apps. The new law also includes strict penalties for celebrities and influencers who promote such platforms.

Skill-based gaming without money involvement will still be allowed, but under strict rules and monitoring.

The move is being seen as a major shake-up for India’s fast-growing gaming industry, which has attracted billions in investment. Supporters of the Bill say it will protect youth and families from the harmful impact of online gambling, while critics fear it may hurt jobs and businesses linked to the sector.

With this, the government has sent a strong message that real-money gaming has no place in India’s digital future.
